The Santa Rosa Painting Company paints houses, apartments, offices and shops in Santa Rosa and the nearby Sonoma County towns. Our work covers interior walls, ceilings and trim, full exterior repaints, kitchen and bathroom cabinets, and decks and fences. We also handle the jobs that come before paint: washing, drywall repair, wallpaper removal and cleared popcorn ceilings. We are licensed and insured, and every job starts with a free estimate and a quote in writing.
Homes here range from century-old redwood houses in the downtown preservation districts to stucco and panel-sided tracts and the fiber cement homes rebuilt in Coffey Park and Fountaingrove. The weather swings between a long dry summer and a wet season from about November to March. Sun breaks paint down on south and west walls, and rain enters through any cracked caulk or bare wood. Good preparation matters more than the color coat, so that is where most of our time goes.
A job runs in clear steps. We visit, look at the surfaces and listen to what you want. You get a written quote naming the areas, repairs, coats and paint. On the agreed day we protect floors, furniture and plants, then prepare, prime and paint. Exterior work is planned around dry weather. At the end we walk the job with you, fix anything you point out and leave the site clean. Call (707) 205-3959 to arrange an estimate.

Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to paint a house in Santa Rosa?
By national figures published by HomeGuide for 2026, a whole interior costs $3,500 to $10,000 and an exterior $3,000 to $10,000 for an average 2,000 square foot house. Those are not our quotes. Size, prep and paint set your price, and we give it in writing after a free estimate.
Do painters need a license in California?
Yes, for any job of $1,000 or more in labor and materials. The state license board, CSLB, licenses painters under classification C-33. You can check any license at cslb.ca.gov. The Santa Rosa Painting Company is licensed and insured.
How much deposit can a painter ask for in California?
No more than $1,000 or 10% of the contract price, whichever is less. That limit is state law for home improvement jobs. Later payments should follow the work completed.
When is the best time to paint an exterior in Santa Rosa?
The dry season, roughly May through October. Most of our rain falls from November to March. In summer, work starts once the morning damp has dried and is planned around the afternoon sun.
My house was built before 1978. Does lead paint matter?
Yes. Old paint layers may contain lead, and federal rules require lead-safe methods when a paid contractor disturbs them. Sound old paint can be painted over. Ask us about your house at the estimate.
Do I need a permit or HOA approval to repaint?
Painting alone rarely needs a building permit. Many HOAs must approve an exterior color change, and homes in a Santa Rosa preservation district may need city review. Check before you choose colors.
