Why painting is different in Santa Rosa
The weather here has two halves. Most of the rain falls from November to March. The summer is dry, with cool and often foggy mornings and warm to hot afternoons. Months of sun fade and dry out the south and west sides of a house, and winter water then gets in wherever the paint or caulk has opened. Exterior work is planned for dry weather and around morning damp and afternoon heat.
The houses vary just as much. Near downtown there are Victorian and Craftsman homes with redwood siding, and paint from before 1978 that may contain lead. Around them are ranch houses and tracts with stucco and plywood panel siding. Coffey Park, Fountaingrove and Larkfield have homes rebuilt after the 2017 fire, mostly in fiber cement and stucco. Each surface needs its own prep and its own product.
How we work
It starts with a free estimate. We walk the job, measure and look at the surfaces, then give you a written quote that sets out the prep, the paint and the price. Before painting we cover floors and furniture and repair and prime the surfaces. Patching, sanding, caulking and priming are part of the job. We apply two coats, clean up fully and finish with a walk-through with you.
Most interior rooms take 1 to 2 days. A full exterior usually takes 3 to 5 days, depending on weather.
